Kooloobong Village accommodates a diverse population of both undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as visiting academics Scholars in Residence , with residents in total. All members of the Kooloobong Village team are committed to providing support and assistance to residents in all aspects of UOW and community living.
The ADSR has specific responsibilities for administration, student support and organisational development. These Managers assist the ADSR in the positive leadership and support of the community including the direction and guidance of the Community Leader and Administrative Teams. The friendly administration team are here to assist you in answering any queries or concerns you may have relating to Kooloobong Village. They are also responsible for maintaining the administrative processes for Kooloobong Village.
The Senior Community Leaders assist Kooloobong Village Management in providing supervision and leadership to the Community Leader team, working with them to support and interact with Kooloobong Village residents, enabling them to flourish and thrive.
The Senior Community leaders are also responsible for coordinating and implementing activities and events, whilst the Community Leaders promote the wellbeing of all residents and provide support, advice and assistance enabling all residents to flourish and thrive.
No fridges are permitted other than those already provided without the prior approval of the Resident Manager. Please note the bathrooms found in all shared units at Kooloobong Village are gender neutral with private cubicles. These will complement the existing facilities such as an outdoor pavilion with barbecue facilities, a sound-proof music room, basketball court, games room, seminar rooms and various other communal spaces.
No alcohol is permitted in these areas. All shared units are required to submit a Unit Agreement within four 4 weeks of the start of session. This agreement is designed to establish a living environment that promotes the rights and responsibilities of each resident within the unit. Your unit agreement should include information relating to various living arrangements such as visiting hours for guests, cleaning expectations, cleaning roster and appropriate noise levels during the day and will be facilitated by your designated area Community Leader.
UOW Environmental Policy. The University and student residences are committed to environmentally friendly practices. There are two types of bins at Kooloobong Village, Red lid bins and Yellow lid bins. The Red lid bins are for general rubbish including; food scraps, and other general rubbish. It is the responsibility of all Building 37 residents to take out the unit rubbish bins.
The bin with the RED lid must be taken out every Tuesday by 11pm and returned the following morning. To help fulfil this vision, and to ensure that all residents can live in a positive, respectful residence free from intimidation and discrimination Kooloobong Village developed a Live Out Loud Program that consists of regular weekly activities and larger one-off events every session. Residents are encouraged to contribute event and activity ideas and suggestions. As you might expect from a residence based upon the principles of positive psychology, Kooloobong Village is a community built on creating strong lasting positive connections where people look out for each other.
As a resident of Kooloobong Village you can expected to be treated with dignity, consideration and respect. In turn is it expected that you will show mutual respect and consideration for the wellbeing of all who live and work within the KBV community.
Whilst we focus on encouraging positive behaviours, we also recognise the need for negative behaviours to be addressed in order to ensure a healthy, happy and safe living environment.
Our community is formed from a diverse group of residents and as such our rules reflect creating a foundation for social inclusion, respect for one another and ensuring the rights of every resident is protected.
Our aim is that every resident stands up for the rights of others and holds one another accountable. Please refer to the Student Conduct in Residence Policy for further information. Washing machines and dryers are available in Buildings 68 coin operated , 73, 74 and 75 coinless. A Request for an Amendment to, or Release from Accommodation Agreement Form is available from reception and also provides further details on circumstances and notice periods for intended departure.
When residents depart Kooloobong Village, their rooms will be inspected ensuring everything has been left in a suitable condition. Costs for damages and cleaning will be charged to the appropriate room occupant. If common areas within units are damaged or require cleaning, the cost will be split among each resident. Office phone number: All residents play a key role in maintaining a high standard of security within Kooloobong Village.
Charges apply and are dependent on the number of boxes to be stored and the time frame required maximum 16 weeks. Payment of these charges are required upfront and prior to placement of items in storage.
A Standard evacuation will commence immediately upon the alarm being triggered. Residents should evacuate to emergency evacuation point.
If you activate a smoke alarm in your room, unit within Building 68 of Kooloobong Village, you will have 60 seconds to waive the smoke away from the alarm before the main alarm is activated. Failing to remove the smoke will result in the activation of the main alarm and a full evacuation of the building and residents should evacuate to the emergency evacuation point.
This is a guide to ensure your needs are met effectively and efficiently. The majority of issues can be resolved by consulting a member of the Kooloobong Village Administration or Community Leader Team. To provide a living and learning environment which fosters respect, along with the intellectual development and personal growth of all residents so as to ensure the academic and social success of all residents who make Marketview their home.
By following the policies and procedures in this handbook, you will embody the central component of this concept and contribute positively to the Marketview community.
The SRM has specific responsibilities for administration, student support and student and organisational development. The DSRM is responsible for providing day to day leadership to the staff, Community Leader team, and the residential community. The friendly administration team are here to assist you in answering any queries or concerns you may have relating to UOW Accommodation Services.
They are also responsible for maintaining the administrative processes for Marketview. The Community Assistants are responsible for the security and safety of residents between 6pm and 8am daily. Their work includes lock outs, room and building access, noise and disturbances, first aid, fire evacuations and other emergencies or related issues, concerns about security.
Community Leaders are responsible for facilitating a sense of community amongst the residents in their area of responsibility and the greater Marketview community. Community Leaders are also responsible for facilitating the Academic Study Sessions which are designed to assist residents with faculty-specific study. Community Leaders are on duty from 5pm to 10pm weekdays and 5am to 10pm weekends.
The Program Coordinator works closely with the Community Leader team to organise activities and events for the Marketview community to build a strong and positive living and learning environment. Community Assistants are on duty from 6pm — 8am weekdays, as well as all weekends and public holidays. In the case of an emergency or evacuation, leave the building via the fire escape stairs located on each wing towards the end of the corridors and near the elevators. Assemble on the Church lawn to await further direction.
In the event of a fire or similar emergency the Administration Staff, Night Duty Staff and Community Leaders will act as building wardens and you must follow their directions. Academic Study Sessions are operated at Marketview. The Study Sessions are a free academic assistance program that utilises peer-led study groups to help students succeed. The program is facilitated by the Community Leaders and designed to assist residents with faculty-specific study.
You should make sure that your room door is locked when you are not in your room or if you are sleeping. The entry door into Marketview will be locked Monday to Friday from 6pm and will be kept locked over the weekend. You can open this door with your room card; however, after 10pm each night you will need to be let in by the Community Assistant.
The large glass sliding doors at the front of the building are not to be opened or closed by residents. The security of the building may be compromised if these doors are opened outside of the office opening hours. Please approach a staff member or Community Leader regarding this should you have any questions. Any guest visiting or staying at Marketview needs to sign in and scan photo ID Australian License or Photo Card at the front counter each time they visit.
All guests must be signed in at the Office, have their sign-in slip on them and be accompanied by a Marketview resident for the duration of their stay. It is important to remember that you are responsible for your guests and their stay must not negatively impact on fellow residents or the Marketview community.
There may be times when we restrict guest entry into Marketview, such as O-Week. This does not prevent you from visiting them outside of Marketview. You will be advised of these times by the Marketview Staff when required. You will receive notification from the Office via your UOW email that you have mail or a parcel when it comes in.
You can collect your mail from reception Monday — Friday from 8am to 5pm. Marketview has a secure basement car park. On acceptance of your Accommodation Offer you will be able to indicate whether you require a parking permit for the year ahead.
If you need to change your selection for any reason after accepting your offer, please contact Marketview via email to arrange this. For further information please contact Marketview. Cars parked illegally without a valid Parking Permit can be infringed by Security and fines apply. The Contractor and Disabled car spaces on Ground Level are not for student use. People parking in these spaces will be fined. Residents have three temporary, overnight Visitor Parking Permits per semester that they can use throughout the year.
There are a limited number of available spots and is strictly subject to availability. Please be aware that these areas are all alcohol free zones and are for the benefit of all Marketview residents. We also have a variety of sporting equipment, board games, Wii and X-Box consoles that can be borrowed. Please look after these areas and equipment and treat them with respect.
Please ensure appliances including fridge, freezer, microwave, etc. Students are responsible for keeping the kitchens and their contents clean and tidy. Every kitchen has expectations and rules, please abide by them. Remember, the kitchen is for the use of everyone not just you, so clean up immediately after using it. There are two bins in each kitchen: one for general waste and one for recycling.
Please ensure you put the correct rubbish in the corresponding bins. These bins are not to be used for rubbish from your room — the bins located in the basement car park are for any personal rubbish.
Absolutely no cooking is allowed in student rooms. The use of an electric kettle with an automatic cut off for making beverages is permitted. Residents are responsible for the cleaning of their rooms. Rooms will be inspected each fortnight by a member of the contracted cleaning company team.
Residents who fail a cleaning inspection will be notified of the fail by hard copy Inspection Fail Report left in their room and also via email.
Failed rooms will be reinspected the following business day. If the room fails the follow up inspection, Cleaning Staff will be required to clean the room and the resident will be charged a cleaning fee for the service.
For charges and further information please refer to the Cleaning section of My Residence Rules. We strongly encourage all residents and guests to be environmentally aware while living at Marketview.
Keeping your room clean and free from rubbish is important. Make sure to remove rubbish from your rooms on a regular basis and especially when the bins are full. Only the appropriate papers, glass, aluminium and plastic can be placed in these bins. You can borrow a vacuum cleaner, please come and see the Office Staff or the Community Assistant on duty after hours.
You will need to bring your Student Card to borrow the vacuum cleaner. Please use the sinks in the kitchen. If your sink is blocked as a result of food waste products you will be charged for the maintenance call out fee. All bathroom rubbish should be emptied regularly and placed in the garbage bins provided in the basement.
This needs to be arranged prior to your arrival. If you are uncertain who to speak with please contact Marketview Administration in person or on telephone 02 in the first instance so you may be directed to the most suitable staff member to assist you. If you are locked out after hours, please call the Community Assistant on If you have lost your room key please contact the Office during office hours or Community Assistant after hours immediately. Your room keys is a magnetic swipe card that will give you access to the building, your room, the kitchens and laundry.
A single subject may count towards two different majors. However, such double counting can apply to only one, 6 credit point subject. Thus completing a second major will require the completion of an additional 42 to 48 credit specified credit points.
Where two or more subjects are common to two majors, the relevant Discipline Leader will designate a replacement subject.
To satisfy the requirements of a minor study a student shall complete the listed subjects for the minor. A single core first year subject is permitted to count towards a minor, however students must ensure they complete the minimum credit points and meet all requirements for the degree.
Students may complete one or more of the designated minors but the completion of a minor is not a degree requirement. A minor cannot be completed in the same discipline as a major, for example an Accountancy Major with an Accountancy Minor.
A single subject may not count towards a major and minor or towards two minors: double counting is not permitted when completing a minor. Thus completing each minor may require an additional 24 credit points if a single core subject is not included in the minor. The Request for Amendment or Release from Accommodation Agreement must be completed and appropriate paperwork supplied endorsing the enrolment status change, once submitted and authorised by the Student Residence Manager.
Any costs payable by the Resident under this clause This clause The University has no obligation to renew this Agreement or to allow the Resident to continue to occupy the Room beyond the End Date.
The Resident acknowledges receipt of, and is familiar with, the contents of the Residence Handbook. Period of Notice As outlined by the Schedule of Fees found here or:. You are here More Pages. It is agreed that: 1. Common Facilities means those parts of the Residence designated by the University from time to time for common use by all residents occupying the Residence and any other person employed, invited, licensed or authorised by the University, and which are not otherwise leased or licensed to any person.
Commencement Date means the commencement date specified in the Agreement Details. A student who, during the Contract Term, has a degree or other qualification conferred upon them by the University, UOW College, or such other educational institution approved by the Associate Director, Student Residence.
A person who is visiting a Resident and is staying overnight, but for not more than 2 nights without the written approval of the Associate Director, Student Residence.
The rules and expectations collectively referred to within the Contract, relating to the conduct of residents and other operational matters as amended by the University from time to time and published on the website here.
The specific bedroom which the Resident is entitled to exclusively occupy as specified within the Offer of Accommodation, or any other UOW managed student accommodation bedroom the Resident occupies, as approved by the University. The style of room specified within the Offer of Accommodation, or any other UOW managed student accommodation room type the student occupies, as approved by the University. The amount referred to within the Fee Schedule for the provision of services other than Accommodation as accepted within the Offer of Accommodation.
This amount is non-refundable. A period in which subjects may be offered at the University. Those parts of the UOW Student Accommodation designated for shared use by all residents living within the same unit.
The accommodation website portal used to apply for accommodation, offer acceptance, accommodations fees and charges and maintenance requests. A person currently registered for a course at the University or who is undertaking non-award study at the University or is enrolled in an institution that has an agreement with the University permitting their students to live in residence.

The charge to cover the administrative and cleaning costs if applicable to voluntarily change Rooms as specified in the Fee Schedule, regardless of whether it is approved by the University. The Room Type, which includes shared facilities. The number of unit members varies dependent upon building location and is specified within the Offer of Accommodation, or as otherwise approved by the University. A person who is visiting a Resident for a short period of time and is not staying overnight and does not include a Guest.
The University grants to the Resident a non-exclusive licence to use and occupy the Room and to access the Common Facilities under the terms of this Contract.
The Resident may only occupy the Room from the Commencement Date until the End Date as noted within Schedule A of this Contract, unless otherwise extended or terminated by the University as confirmed in writing. This Contract is personal to the Resident and does not create or confer on the Resident any rights as tenant of any part of the Residence including the Room or create the relationship of landlord and tenant between the parties.
The Resident agrees that the terms of this Contract cannot be varied or amended without the prior written consent of the University. The Resident acknowledges having had the opportunity to seek independent legal advice and has entered into this Contract freely and voluntarily. Wherever possible, the University will take into consideration room preference and other special requests, however these preferences cannot be guaranteed and are at the absolute discretion of the University.
Where the University requires a Resident to temporarily relocate rooms, the University will provide the Resident with advance notice and on receipt of any such notice, the Resident must vacate the Room and relocate to the room specified by the University and within the period specified in the notice.
If the Resident fails to comply with this clause 3. The Resident may request in writing to be transferred to an alternate Room and the University may agree or not agree to the request in its absolute discretion. If the request is approved by the University, the Resident may be required to pay the Transfer Fee even if, following such approval, the Resident decides to not proceed with the transfer. If the relocation is for the remaining duration of the Contract Term as notified by the University and the University requires the Resident to move under clause 3.
Unless the relocation is temporary as notified by the University to the Resident , if the Resident moves to another Room for any reason including if required to move by the University under clause 3. Without limiting clause 4. The University may allow access to the Room by a member of any law enforcement agency who is seeking to establish the presence of the Resident.
The Resident is responsible for the conduct and behaviour of all Family Members, Guests and Visitors of the Resident and the Resident is liable for all expenses, costs, fees, charges and damage incurred by such Family Members, Guests and Visitors including any injury or property damage they cause.
The Resident may have a maximum of one Guest stay in their Room at any given time for no longer than 2 nights. Should the Resident wish for a Guest to stay with them in their Room longer than 2 nights, the Resident must:. Guests approved by the University in writing to stay in Residence longer than 2 nights but no more than 4 nights will be charged an Accommodation Fee for each night the Room is occupied after the 2 complimentary nights, and may be required to relocate to an alternate Room, at the absolute discretion of the University for the duration of their Guest stay.
The Services Fees are not refundable, whether in part or full, including in the event Contract is terminated prior to the End Date. If, during the Contract Term, the Resident loses any of the keys, swipe cards and security devices to the Room and the Residence that have been issued to the Resident, the Resident must pay the cost of replacing those keys, swipe cards and security devices and the reconfiguration of the lock system as set out in the Fee Schedule.
Without limiting this obligation, the Resident must notify the Associate Director, Student Residence promptly of any inability to pay any amount by the due date.
